Mobility:
The weekend has passed... Gma is regaining some of her strength, but still needs (or wants) help getting up out of chair(s). We have not changed her meds any and she seems to be doing OK.... She will never get back to the way she used to bounce around the house, but then again, neither will I (!)
I'm grateful that Gma can still get into the tub for her bath. I didn't hear any comments or complaints from the aide that came to give Gma her bath on Saturday morning...
Memory:
As I pause to think about it, I think her memory lapses are somewhat tied to how tired she is. Mornings she seems to be well (or better), but evenings are a round of answering the same things... Not all the time, but she is (and we probably all are) better when rested well. As Pam puts it, she doesn't have a lot of things to think about and so she goes back into her memory and relives some of those things.
Here's how that works: DO this now --- Close your eyes --- Think of something you were doing just five years ago. Where were you? What were you ding? Can you see / feel the details?
OK, now think about where, what you will be at/doing in five years from now. Real hard isn't it?
Now let's try this morning. A lot easier isn't it? But do you remember ALL of the details/feelings?
Eating:
- We have needed to start having Gma use a dish-towel "bib" when she eats... You know, one of those cotton dish towel things... As I help her put it on, I have had flash-backs to when she used to do that same thing for me when I was very young.
- Cut-Up -- I have needed to start cutting up some of her food for her. She doesn't always have the fine motor control that we all take for granted... It is hard sometimes for her to get the utensils to angle and cut as she used to. She also doesn't always know if something is dangling from the spoon/fork while on the way to her mouth - hence the need for the bib.
And so, we putter the days away....
