This morning I arrived at about 9AM and found Mom sitting mostly on her bed. She was not able to pull herself up to get into the bathroom. I asked how long she had been that way and she said about 5 mins.
It was a real struggle to get her into the bathroom and took some time. It has taken lots of time for her to get things taken care of and changed. It is now about 10:20AM and she is still not out of the bathroom, though I think she is almost ready to come out.
One good thing: she was able to have a bowel movement (BM) since I left her last night.
Summation:
* She is still in pretty good spirits, but is getting weaker and more frustrated about her inabilities. She is now (seems like) always apologizing for the situation she is now in.
* We also talked a bit last evening about her wanting to 'step across the line'. I think she is getting more and more ready for that...

Mom had trouble getting out of the bathroom so I helped her - holding onto her walker to stabilize it. She got to the bottom of her bed (on her way to her chair in the front room) when she decided that maybe she couldn't get all the way out there. She decided that she would lay on her bed for a while. It was a struggle to get her there, though I didn't need to lift her [more like drag her, which is difficult since I am not muscular].
Here-to-fore, it has been her right knee that has provided her biggest challenge. This morning her left knee didn't want to work much either. That made it quite difficult for her to move either leg.
She is resting now (with oxygen). She may even sleep some. We have postponed breakfast for now. I'm thinking (when she is ready) that I'll make a fruit smoothie for us. That should be fun to drink and provide some good nutrients...
11:00 AM
Anna, the Hospice nurse, called to ask if she could come visit this morning instead of tomorrow. YES! She will come here as soon as she finishes with her current visit -- in about an hour. Results on her visit will be posted below as I receive them:
AVG
BP 130/68 142/81
Pulse 98 89
02 Sat 98% 91%
Temp 99.2 98
Respiration 24 (while lying in bed) 20
Notes: O2 was high being on 3ltr; Mom needs someone to be with her all the time now. Nurse recommended that they bring in a real hospital bed and commode. The Aid will now be scheduled to come in each day to clean Mom up and make sure that she doesn't develop skin rashes or bed sores.
Addendum
========
4:00 PM --- Mom slept pretty much from Noon till about 3:45PM. I checked on her and she said that she would like to go to the bathroom. I assisted her and though she is not out of the woods yet, she was getting around better, all-be-it still quite slowly. When she was finished she said she wanted to try to get into her chair in the front room --- and indeed, slowly, we made it in there.
We talked about the need for a real hospital bed and where to put it. That is still up in the air a bit, but we'll make the change for her soon. As she continues to weaken, she will need a commode next to her bed so she won't have a lengthy distance to go. And this will need to work until she is not able to get up at all...
She has now had her supper (Cream of Chicken soup) and is resting (slightly slumbering) in her chair with the O2 running. Occasionally I see her wiggle her toes. Not sure what is causing that... Hopefully it's remembering good memories!
I will be staying with her tonight....

Thanks so much for the information. It was so good the nurse could come today! It is hard to see her go downhill and I'm so thankful she has you to take care of her. Family is important. I remember Grandma talking about stepping over the line when we visited her in January. She and you are in my prayers daily. Are you able to stay with her all the time now or does hospice provide a nurse?
I will be stay over here with Mom from now on.
The Hospice nurse is scheduled to come in on Tues & Thu, but will come in to assess medical issues more if we need her to.
Thanks for your comment and call.
Let us all pray for Mom's easy passing...
:-)

Thanks Duane for keeping us updated. I check the blog often and appreciate it so much! I (and the fam) pray every day for Gramma and that she will have contentment and peace from now until her passing. I pray for strength for you too as you take care of her and walk her through this time. I can't thank you enough! Please send my love to Gramma!
Thanks so much for our visit. Definitely praying for Grandma' peaceful passing. Called my sisters and Dad, too. Thanks, Uncle Duane, for all you do. Praying for strength and wisdom for you.
